This study, commissioned by the Appalachian Regional Commission, provides an overview of the coal industry ecosystem including production, power generation, and supply chain linkages, and presents the most current data and trends on coal-related industries. The paper also examines a number of coal industry-related topics, including: employment and production, coal-fired power plants and electricity generation, the transportation of coal shipments by mode, and the outlook for the coal industry.
