County Economic Status in Appalachia, FY 2007

(Effective October 1, 2006 through September 30, 2007)

The Appalachian Regional Commission uses an index-based county economic classification system to identify and monitor the economic status of Appalachian counties. See the methodology for a description of each economic level.

This map shows ARC’s economic classification of the 410 counties in the Appalachian Region for FY 2007 (October 1, 2006 through September 30, 2007). Seventy-eight counties are classified as distressed, 78 are classified as at-risk, 221 are classified as transitional, 26 are classified as competitive, and 7 are classified as attainment.
