On October 5, ARC, EPA, and partner agencies announced the availability of community planning assistance through Rural Advantage, a suite of programs that help rural communities develop strategies to grow their economies and revitalize downtown neighborhoods. These programs include
Local Foods, Local Places, which helps communities leverage local food enterprise to diversify their economy and renew their downtowns;
Cool & Connected, created to help communities use broadband service to create walkable, connected, economically successful neighborhoods; and
Healthy Places for Healthy People, a new program that helps communities use centrally located health-care facilities to promote community development and active living.
More information on these planning assistance opportunities is available in a
webinar hosted by EPA on October 20 and on the EPA Web site at
www.epa.gov/smartgrowth.
Applications for Rural Advantage support are due November 6.
