Kentucky Launches Development of Statewide Broadband Network

August 2015

On August 31, 2015, ARC Federal Co-Chair Earl Gohl joined Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear, U.S. Congressman Hal Rogers, and state and local officials at Hazard Community and Technical College in Berea, Kentucky, to launch development of the KentuckyWired statewide broadband network. When completed, the network will cover approximately 3,400 miles across the state, providing affordable, reliable high-speed Internet connectivity throughout Kentucky's 120 counties. By improving Internet connection speeds that lag far behind those in much of the rest of the country, KentuckyWired will help boost job growth and economic development in the state and improve access to education and health care. Construction of the network will begin in eastern Kentucky and continue over the next three years, with an anticipated completion date of October 2018.
