ARC and ETSU Offer Competitive Grants to Support Collaborative Health Projects in Distressed Counties January 2014

ARC and the Tennessee Institute of Public Health (TNIPH) at East Tennessee State University have launched the "Regional Roadmap for a Healthier Appalachian Tennessee" competitive grant program, which will provide funding, training, and technical assistance to help communities in economically distressed counties establish health initiatives linking health, economic development, and education.

The program will award grants of $2,500 each to support 20 local health projects in 37 of Tennessee's most economically distressed counties. The projects will emphasize multi-sector collaboration to help establish community-oriented health promotion and prevention initiatives; links between health, economic development, and education programs; improvements in health factors and economic outcomes; and lasting partnerships among community groups.

Applicants must submit a letter of intent to apply by February 3, 2014, and attend an applicant workshop on March 4 in Greeneville. The application deadline is April 1.
