A Proud Heritage and a Bright Tomorrow: Recognizing LDDs' Valuable Role in Shaping Appalachia's FutureMarch 2013 |
Building a better future for the Appalachian Region requires both a clear vision of the present, and an informed view of the past. In considering how to help the Region continue building stronger local economies and communities, local development districts (LDDs) must review past efforts to learn what programs have worked; where change is needed; and how to better plan for the challenges and opportunities tomorrow will bring. Like the Region itself, LDDs have a proud history of hard work and achievement to celebrate; and now, in a rapidly changing global economy, they can build on the lessons learned in the past to plan and prepare for success in the future. More than ever, LDDs' economic development experience gives them a critical role to play in making Appalachia stronger.
The 2013 Development District Association of Appalachia (DDAA) conference, A Proud Heritage and a Bright Tomorrow: Recognizing LDDs' Valuable Role in Shaping Appalachia's Future, will examine how LDDs can build on their knowledge to better meet Appalachian communities' needs today and tomorrow. Conference sessions will provide insight on key current and emerging development issues and opportunities, and examples of effective development programs and activities taking place across Appalachia.
The conference will also include activities that encourage networking and idea sharing with colleagues from throughout the Region, and events that honor those who have made significant contributions to Appalachia's economic and community well-being. Several conference events will be held in partnership with the National Association of Development Organizations, including the federal agency roundtable networking reception on Monday afternoon.
