Members of the ARC Export Trade Advisory Council and Network Appalachia transportation planning and development group met in Washington, D.C., December 14–15, 2011, for a workshop on opportunities and obstacles for Appalachian businesses in domestic and international commerce. The workshop was attended by transportation, economic development, and international trade experts from throughout the Appalachian Region. Topics discussed included opportunities to continue development of an intermodal transportation network in the Region to strengthen businesses' access to domestic and global markets; the Appalachia USA export promotion initiative; and ARC's "Global Appalachia" export development fund, which will support expansion of the Region's exports.
