On February 13, 2012, the Obama administration proposed a federal budget for fiscal year (FY) 2013 that requests $64.8 million for ARC's community and economic development programs, a 5 percent reduction from the FY 2012 funding level. The reduction reflects the administration's continued commitment to building a strong economy in Appalachia while honoring budget constraints required by the 2011 debt ceiling agreement. The budget assumes no major policy or programmatic changes for Commission activities and will continue the administration's interagency focus on strengthening and diversifying the Appalachian economy. The budget proposal will now go to Congress for its consideration.
