Pioneers in partnership to build a stronger Appalachia, local development districts (LDDs) have played a key role in the Region's economic and community development over the last decades. Created to work together to reach common goals while serving their communities' unique needs, LDDs have catalyzed Appalachia's achievements by providing diverse services and functions that change and grow with their customers' needs. This flexibility and the strength of the regional approach have made the LDD model one that works, and, more than ever, has an important part to play in the Region's development.
The 2012 Development District Association of Appalachia (DDAA) conference, Working Together for a Better Region: How Local Development Districts are Making a Difference in Appalachia, will highlight the successes LDDs have achieved, showcasing best-practices development programs and activities from across the Region. Participants will hear "ideas that work" on how LDDs can adapt strategically to better meet communities' needs and enhance their programs and services to help strengthen local economies.
The conference will also include activities that encourage networking and idea sharing with colleagues from throughout the Region, and events that honor those who have made significant contributions to Appalachia's economic and community well-being.
