Legislative Update: Legislation Extends FY 2011 Funding for Government, Federal Highway Programs

March 2011

On March 18, 2011, President Barack Obama signed into law legislation (P.L. 112-006) that continues FY 2011 funding of government programs through April 8. The legislation, which reduces funding for a variety of federal programs by $6 billion, funds ARC's nonhighway programs at the FY 2010 level of $76 million. The measure is designed to allow House of Representatives and Senate negotiators additional time to craft a compromise spending bill for the remainder of the fiscal year.

On March 4 the president signed legislation (P.L. 112-005, the Surface Transportation Extension Act of 2011) that extends funding for federal highway programs, including the Appalachian Development Highway System, at FY 2010 levels through September 30.
