On August 10, 2005, President Bush signed into law a multi-year highway bill to replace the Transportation Equity Act for the 21st Century. The new bill is known as the Safe, Accountable, Flexible, Efficient Transportation Equity Act: A Legacy for Users (SAFETEA-LU). The bill authorizes $470 million per year through FY 2009 for the Appalachian Development Highway System (ADHS), which ARC oversees. Portions of some ADHS corridors have been identified as high priority and will receive additional funding.
